Health Booth


 
The role of the Ventanilla de Salud (VDS, Health Booth) at the Consulate of Mexico in Dallas is to help the community to prevent and solve health problems. The VDS offers the following services:
  • Inform and enroll people who qualify in programs that offer medical coverage such as Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP (Child Health Insurance Program), and those of the Mexican Federal Government like the health insurance for migrants program offered by the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS);

  • Refer interested parties to clinics, hospital and/or physicians;

  • Talks, seminars and courses to improve and maintain health;

  • Clinical examinations to detect and follow up on the most common diseases in the Latino population such as diabetes, high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol, breast cancer, prostate cancer as well as tuberculosis and venereal diseases including AIDS;

  • Vaccinations required by the State of Texas.
The Health Booth is supported by grants to the Centro Comunitario Mexicano-DFW
from the Aetna Foundation and Fundo Mexico.
The various health services are provided by Parkland Health & Hospital System, Methodist Health System,
The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Manos Unidas, and others.
